At Gardner Real Estate Group, we take pride in the expertise, dedication, and local knowledge of our agents. We’re excited to highlight Rob Richardson, an experienced Associate Broker known for his strategic, detail-oriented approach to real estate. With decades of experience in Portland, Maine, Rob’s ability to guide clients, whether buyers, sellers, or investors, sets him apart in the industry.

A Hands-On Journey into Real Estate

Rob’s real estate career began with a bold leap into property investment.

"My first real estate investment was an apartment building that my friend and I purchased soon after we graduated college. This was a significant moment because it marked the beginning of my hands-on learning in real estate. It taught me the value of taking calculated risks and how much potential properties can have when you invest time and effort into them."

"I originally earned my real estate license while in college. While many of my friends were waiting tables, I was gaining hands-on experience in the real estate industry. After some time away pursuing a career in insurance management, my love for Maine brought me back. Now, nearly four years since returning, I’m once again a licensed real estate agent, helping clients navigate the buying and selling process—whether it’s a home, a new build, or an investment property. There’s nothing more rewarding than guiding people through one of the biggest decisions of their lives.."

A Success Story Built on Trust

Rob has built long-term relationships with his clients, often turning professional connections into lasting friendships. One of his most rewarding experiences was helping a first-time homebuyer navigate the complex process of purchasing their first home.

"I worked with a first-time buyer who had dreamed of homeownership but felt overwhelmed by the process. From securing financing to negotiating terms, I guided them every step of the way, ensuring they felt confident and informed. When unexpected challenges arose, I worked closely with the lender and seller to keep everything on track. Seeing the joy on their face when they got the keys to their first home was incredibly fulfilling."

This transaction wasn’t just about business—it was about trust. Even after the sale, Rob has stayed in touch with the client, offering advice on homeownership and celebrating milestones along the way.

""My goal is always to provide a seamless, professional experience, but in many cases, it naturally turns into something more—a lasting relationship built on trust and shared excitement for their future."

What Sets Rob Apart

Rob’s success is driven by his attention to detail and ability to listen.

"I'm a good listener and I'm patient. Whether it’s a seller sharing the history of their property or a buyer outlining their dream home, I want to hear every detail. I also keep meticulous records of all conversations, which has proven to be invaluable in keeping transactions smooth. Real estate involves a lot of moving parts, so tracking every detail is key."

His ability to anticipate challenges, ask the right questions, and stay highly organized ensures that every transaction is handled with precision and care.

Why Rob Loves Portland

Rob has called Portland home since the 2000s, when he first moved here after college. Decades later, his love for the city remains as strong as ever.

"Portland has always had a small-town charm. You get to know your neighbors here, and it feels so friendly. The parks and public trails are amazing! From my home, I can walk to work, the gym, and just about everything I need. Each neighborhood has its own character, with bakeries, breweries, galleries, and local shops creating a vibrant, walkable lifestyle."

Beyond its charm and convenience, Rob has a deep appreciation for Portland’s historic homes and architecture. He and his husband own a historic John Calvin Stevens home, which they have lovingly restored. His passion for preservation led him to become a board member for Greater Portland Landmarks, where he advocates for protecting the city’s architectural heritage.

In addition to his work in real estate, Rob is an active member of the LGBTQ+ community and a volunteer for the Equality Community Center (ECC). His commitment to both historic preservation and community engagement reflects his love for Portland—not just as a place to live, but as a place to invest in and help thrive.

""The secret is out in Portland, and I know when I’m helping buyers and sellers in this area, they recognize how special this place is too."
