Ray is originally from Chicago but has lived all over the country throughout his 22-year career as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the US Army and Army Reserve. He is a well-decorated combat veteran who moved to Maine in 2006. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, Ray worked as a leader within the Human Services industry; specifically on behalf of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the non-profit industry. Both of these careers have shown Ray the power of having a place to call home and he continues to be a passionate advocate for veterans, and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
A friendly and skilled problem solver, Ray works with buyers and sellers of all backgrounds but specializes in guiding veterans through the home buying and Military VA Loan Certificate process. Having used the VA Loan several times to buy and sell personal properties throughout his career, Ray knows first-hand how this loan will contribute to his clients’ personal financial security.
Ray's goal is to teach veterans in Maine how to use this benefit to their advantage and demonstrate how a veteran can purchase their own home for less than the cost of rent. "Most young veterans do not think they can afford a home,” Ray said, “they are reluctant to even investigate the possibility; wasting an opportunity to create wealth for them and their children."
Ray enjoys working out, gardening, and animals of all kinds. He is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), a life member of the American Legion, and a life member of AMVETS. One of his greatest joys is having watched his daughter, (a military brat) grow up to be a good person who works within a non-profit agency assisting at-risk youth, placing the needs of others above her own.
